Many thanks to Shannon for getting us off to a strong start.

Website Redesign Vision & Guiding Principles

Design Vision

The Longmont Genealogical Society website should reflect who we are: a welcoming community dedicated to preserving and sharing family stories. Our design will be clean, accessible, and easy to navigate, inviting visitors to explore, connect, and participate. Every element should serve our mission of education, preservation, and connection while projecting credibility, warmth, and trust. The site will be simple to maintain, enduring in both function and style, so it remains a lasting, living resource for generations of family historians.

Guiding Principles

  1. Clean and Uncluttered – Prioritize white space, visual simplicity, and easy navigation over dense text or visual noise.
  2. Accessible and Easy to Read – Fonts, colors, and layouts must meet accessibility standards and display well on all devices.
  3. Inviting and Action-Oriented – Every visitor should quickly understand how to get involved: join, attend, volunteer, or learn.
  4. Mission-First Content – Every page and feature should support the Society’s core goals: education, preservation, and connection.
  5. Sustainable and Easy to Maintain – The site should be simple to update by volunteers without coding expertise and structured to stay relevant over time.
  6. Community-Centered – Highlight people, stories, and events more than documents or data; foster a sense of belonging and curiosity.
  7. Credible and Trustworthy – The site’s tone, visuals, and information should inspire confidence in the Society’s integrity and accuracy, helping visitors feel confident engaging, learning, and sharing within our community.
